Judicial report: Weather: Overcast but warm conditions. Trainer JT McInerney was charged under Rule: 172 in respect of nominating JIMMY JOB for Race 12, The Flair Sprint, after having been stood down under Rule: 259 for 10 days at the Southland GRC meeting on Friday 3 October 2003. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $50.00.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C2 - 520 Into the first corner the second favourite TOKEN ECHO moved off the rail colliding with KIWI KID on her outer, who in turn collided with SOVEREIGN REWARD. As a result of these dogs coming together, an improving DR STREZLECKI collided with SOVEREIGN REWARD, both dogs losing momentum. Soon after this incident TOKEN ECHO and MEGA BYTES came together, losing a number of lengths. These five dogs never recovered from these incidents, finishing some distance behind the place getters. KNOCKABOUT NOVA (AC Roberts) left hind stress sprain of fibula. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 14 October 2003.
Race 2 ROCKCOTE STAKES - C2 - 520 Into the first corner WHISKY BANDIT moved away from the rail, tightening YALLAH GEM, MY KEV and CLOCK STOPPER on his outer. CLOCK STOPPER fell as a result of the outward movement, taking no further part in the event. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who found CLOCK STOPPER to have sustained a left shoulder injury, recommending a stand down period of 14 days. SATIN GRIP who was beaten by a nose, ducked out sharply near the finish line. Trainer JF ALLEN was advised to improve the dogs racing manners. CLOCK STOPPER (W Steele) left shoulder pain on extension. Rule: 329. 14 days up to and including 22 October 2003.
Race 3 HALSWELL TAVERN DISTANCE - C1/2d - 732 As the last of the greyhounds were being boxed, the lids activated with all dogs jumping and completing the event, without the lure. The race was subsequently declared a no race in accordence with Rule: 305 (1). An inquiry was instituted as to the cause of the lids opening, however it was unable to be established what had caused them to trip. The most probable cause was that the locking mechanism was not secure when the lids were closed prior to the race. The boxes and lids would be checked by the club electrician prior to the next race meeting. TOKEN TALK was checked following the event by the Club Veterinarian and found to have a mild right hock sprain, recommending a stand down period of 10 days. HAWK DREAMER (GA Cleeve) right hind inside toe laceration. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 14 October 2003. TOKEN TALK (T Freeman) mild sprain of right hock. Rule: 329. 10 days up to and including 18 October 2003.
Race 4 SHIRLEY VETERINARY CENTRE STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first corner RIKER was tightened between dogs, losing momentum finishing second to last. SUPER GOLD (AC Roberts) was a late scratching at kennelling when found to have a left hind split toenail. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 15 October 2003.
Race 5 SUPEREPETS SPRINT - C2 - 295 Entering the first corner the second favourite BURN THE PEG crossed down towards the rail from his outside draw, tightening FIFI THE FLEA, QUIET SPIRIT and CLASSIC TWIST on his inner. These dogs lost all chance, filling the last three places. BLUE FERN who was slow to jump from Box 1 ran on strongly to finish second, albeit eight lengths from the winner BANKSIDE BRAT.
Race 6 LION FOUNDATION KINGSTON CUP - C2df - 732 Entering the first corner ZINGER'S NOTCH was tightened between the favourite OZARK'S GUMBOOT and DR COSMO, these dogs losing all chance as a result fnishing near the rear of the field.
Race 7 BOWL AND JACK TAVERN SPRINT - C5 - 295 GROOVY JEWEL was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last finishing seventh. SOULSTORM who took up a handy position, drifted out over the concluding stages of the event, finishing last. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who found the dog to have cramped up in a gracilus muscle, recommending no stand down period.
Race 8 GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND STAKES - C5 - 520 Into the first corner HE'S ALL GOSSIP and FLIGHTY came together, losing ground and coming back on a trailing second favourite LIGHTENING LIGHT. All three dogs never recovered, finishing at the rear of the field.
Race 9 CANTERBURY DRAUGHT 6 PACK - C3/4 - 520 MARSHA BALE was slow to jump from the outside box, settling last. She ran wide around the first corner losing further ground, running on over the concluding stages for fifth. Into the back straight HEAD MOVER struck the hindquarters of PRIVATE BEN, both dog losing momentum and finishing at the rear of the field. BACK EAR JACK (JA Alfeld) was a late scratching at midday. Diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 5 days up to and including 13 October 2003.
Race 10 KOLORFUL KANVAS LTD STAKES - C1 - 520 The favourite TRENDY RHODE stumbled soon after jumping from the boxes, settling mid field eventually finishing fourth. The second favourite TURBO WARRIOR ran wide around the first corner, settling well back finishing mid field. Into the home straight SNOW BIRD moved outwards onto HONEST BIRD, who was forced out onto the favourite. SNOW BIRD finished strongly to get up and win the event impressively, with HONEST BIRD third. JEMALONG BRUISER (GA Cleeve) entered into Christchurch nominations in error by Association office. No penalty.
Race 11 FLAIR SPRINT - C4 - 295 All clear. KELLBRETT JEMMA (JA Alfeld) diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 5 days up to and including 11 October 2003.
