Stipendiary Stewards Report

Auckland Greyhound Racing Club

Manukau Stadium ON THURSDAY 06 May 2004

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Overcast, some light rain. 1. An Enquiry opened on the 28 April 2004 to seek clarification as to the application of Rules 268 & 269 on imported greyhounds - as to weight variance, has now been completed. Following a meeting of the NZGRA Racing sub-committee it has been determined that Faithful Blue should not have started on the 28.04.04 at the AGRC meeting, and that the weight variance of (minus) 1.7k should have resulted in the dog's withdrawal. As the ruling that a variance exceeding 1.5 should uniformly be adhered to was not retrospective, the placings will stand.
2. Mervyn O'Brien, handler, (for trainer AH Lee) appeared before the Judicial Chairman and entered a plea of 'not guilty' to a charge brought by the Stipendiary Steward in terms of Rule 130.4 (iii) - in that he failed to furnish information as to an Enquiry when so required by the Stipendiary Steward, by misleading and giving false information. The Enquiry for which the information had been required had been opened post the Waikato & District GRC meeting on the 30 April 2004 when it was revealed that the greyhound Thrilling Bella (B & L Craik), scratched from the race meeting that day, had been trialed on the raceway shortly after being presented to the veterinary surgeon for examination, and having been subject of a 5 day stand down in terms of Rule 259. After the hearing of evidence presented by the Stipendiary Steward, the Judicial Chairman adjourned his decision.
