Judicial report: Weather: Wet Trainers J&D Fahey were charged with a breach of rules 64.2 and 64.5 as a consequence of the nomination of Opawa Rose in two separate heats that culminated in both finals being scheduled on the same day. They pleaded guilty to the charge and were fined the sum of $100.00. Opawa Rose was stood down for 28 days up to and including 10th August 2006.

Race 1 | ADVANCE PERFORMANCE DASH - C5 - 295 | KOLA'S WEAPON was slow to jump from the inside box passing a couple to finish in sixth placing. HOMEBUSH BELLA and CLAN ONYX were tightened into the first bend and lost ground with both dogs finishing midfield. |
Race 2 | SOUTHERN TRUST SPRINT - C1 - 295 | At the end of the back straight LABELLED URGENT was checked when RICHTER crossed sharply from an outside box. SONNY BOY JONES copped the backwash in this incident and was relegated to the rear. All of these dogs finished well back. |
Race 3 | CANTERBURY DRAUGHT SIX PACK - C4/5 - 520 | CLAN EBONY, TRINITY TRANCE and HOMEBUSH THORN all tangled into the first bend losing ground and finishing well back. On the home turn HOMEBUSH THORN struck the hindquarters of HOMEBUSH BUBBLES who was badly checked and finished last. |
Race 4 | WILSON'S SPORTS BAR & TAB SPRINT - C2 - 295 | DISCO FEVER was slow to jump from the inside box and stayed well back throughout. MONKEY BAY drifted soon after the start and finished a long last. A post race veterinary check revealed a sore left gracilus with a fourteen day stand down recommended. MONKEY BAY (MJ Flipp) sore left gracilus. Rule 82.1. 14 days up to and including 3 August 2006 |
Race 5 | BOB ANGOVE SPRINT - C2 - 295 | OHOKA FLIRT tried to run outwards at the first bend and in doing so checked MARILYNS WALK and ROBERT ALAN. This cost all dogs their chances and they filled the last three placings. AMAZING FANCY was also inconvenienced in this incident but recovered to finish fourth. |
Race 6 | CENTURY FOUNDATION NZ ST LEGER - HEAT 1 - R/Aq - 520 Heat 1 | All clear. THRILLING HUGO (K Walsh) sprained right fore metacarpal ligament. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 20 days up to and including 8 August 2006. KRACKER (BC Dann) left metacarpal soreness. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 10 days up to and including 29 July 2006. |
Race 7 | CENTURY FOUNDATION NZ ST LEGER - HEAT 2 - R/Aq - 520 Heat 1 | CONNECT, WHISKY LODGE LAD and LAGOON LADY were tightened soon after the jump. Around the first bend WHISKY LODGE LAD and LAGOON LADY came together again settling at the rear. WHISKY LODGE LAD ran on late for fourth with LAGOON LADY tailing the field home. She was subject to a post race veterinary check which revealed no injury. |
Race 8 | CENTURY FOUNDATION NZ ST LEGER - HEAT 3 - R/Aq - 520 Heat 1 | HOMEBUSH FALCON checked off the heels of SIESMIC down the back straight with TOMMY LEE WHISKY losing ground as a result. These dogs all finished well back. Favourite WAXEYE was among the tailenders on the first bend but made up a lot of ground to finish a close fourth. |
Race 9 | CHALLENGE OPAWA ALL UP STAKES - C1 - 520 | COLOUR WASH was slow from the outside box before being checked soon after the start. He railed up into the bend to improve down the back finishing strongly in the straight to win. CLAN MCINERNEY was tightened into the first bend easing to last never improving. Around the first bend PALONE clipped COOL PILGRIM coming back on HOMEBUSH JOCK. He ran on well for second with PALONE third. COOL PILGRIM ran on late for a close up sixth. |
Race 10 | SOUTHERN TRUST NEW ZEALAND STAYERS CUP FINAL - C2df - 732 | THRILLING MATCH was slow to jump settling at the rear. Second favourite OIZDON SPICE jumped well and tracked the favourite THRILLING LARISA until the end of the back straight when she took control of the race and scored a convincing win. |
Race 11 | MICHAEL HARBISON STAKES - C3 - 520 | HEART OF DESIRE was slow and ran wide around the first bend. This dog finished last. WHATA DUDE was denied racing room into the last bend and went wide losing its chance. It finished close up although only seventh. |
Race 12 | BACK HERE WEDNESDAY DASH - C5 - 295 | WILD BILL ran outwards on the first bend checking CEEJAY'S MAGIC, MILANION and LOCHINVAR RHETT. CEEJAY'S MAGIC finished fourth with the others filling the last three placings. |
