SOUTHLAND GREYHOUND RACING CLUB
Situated at Ascot Park, the only tri-code (all three racing codes) venue in New Zealand, the Southland Club has also recently converted its racing surface from grass to loam. The track provides all greyhounds competing with an 'even chance at the spoils' and the surface itself, with the beautiful sand sourced from a nearby beach, is very 'kind' to all competing greyhounds. Another Club with a real emphasis on 'local flavour' and encouragement in participation.

SGRC SELECTION CRITERIA
1. The greyhounds last four starts are added together to give a total.
2. Subtract 1 off for each 1st, 2nd and 3rd stake bearing tote placing in the last four starts.
3. Greyhounds are then ranked from lowest total to highest total and selected into fields.
4. Where two dogs have the same form total, the dog with the highest last stake bearing placing of 1st, 2nd or 3rd in it’s last four starts is selected first. If neither dog has a 1st, 2nd or 3rd stake placing, the dog with the lowest last unplaced start is selected.
5. First starters and non-tote form – a greyhound which finished in the first two in a 4-5 dog field or in the first four in a 6-8 dog field is given a 4th placing, giving it a total of 16 for it’s first start. All others are given a 5th placing, giving it a total of 17. Any dog who has less than four starts, receives an automatic 4th placing for each start.
6. Feature races and mixed grade races – higher assessed dogs take preference.
7. Greyhounds nominating at Southland that fail to secure a tote race start after two successive nominations when an uncombined race in the greyhound’s current grade has been carded, shall receive first preference for a tote start when a race for that greyhound’s grade is provided. The onus shall be on the greyhound’s trainer to notify the SGRC Secretary/Manager by email to [email protected] or text to 0278624341 the two dates and the grade the greyhound had been nominated for and failed to gain a start (highlighting if a reserve that failed to gain re-entry) by 11am on the closing date of nominations so the Secretary/Manager has time to check the eligibility for a start.
Please Note: Only Stake Bearing Places of 1st, 2nd and 3rd are taken account for this Policy.
